Due to the increase in the lactation production of high-yielding dairy cows the glucose requirement will be more often the limiting factor in milk production, therefore improving the supply of glucose is a very important task for the nutritionist. In practice the glucose supply can be improved with the stimulation of gluconeogenesis e.g. feeding with propylene glycol, glycerine, propionates and with increasing the amount of starch and/or glucose absorbed from the small intestine.en
