Feline injection site Sarcoma and its management with the use of ALA photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy
Abstract
Feline injection site sarcoma has been a challenging topic from the perspective of treatment due to its high local malignancy. While radical surgery is likely to be the most important prognostic factor, when considering a multifactorial management both pre and post-operative radiotherapy and the use of chemotherapy have been shown` to have good results. Radiation therapy is however, not always accessible, therefore, in our study, we investigated the efficacy of the use of Aminolevulinic Acid (ALA) photosensitizer in Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). After the IV administration of ALA and the radical surgical excision of the lesion, PDT was applied on the open wound.
