Abstract
According to the constitution the Holsteiner breeder association has the aim to bred obeisant, motivated and pretty riding horses with a well-proportioned body conformation focused on producing athletes for showjumping. In order to reach the breeding target a closed genetic pool of many generation of Holsteiner genome is available. At the beginning the Holsteiner were working horses for the field and public transportation, but it changed due to the impact of consequent improvement by genetics of other studbooks. The first wave of thoroughbred stallions with a great impact was started by Ladykiller xx and Cottage Son xx. A little bit later the French bred Cor de la Bryère started his career and is now present in almost every Holsteiner pedigree. But also in the last ten to twenty years the bred was constantly up dated by mainly French stallions. The reason for the successful correlation, is the two studbooks have a similar target and different but related genetic material. So in the exchange the improvement is given with a certain guarantee.
