Abstract
Iodine is a crucial component of thyroid hormones and the urinary excretion of iodide reflects the recent iodine intake, making it a sensitive marker of current iodine status of populations. Although there has been proven correlations between iodine status and the thyroid function in humans, this matter needs to be further researched among dogs and cats. This study investigated the amount of urinary iodide among dogs and cats originating from different geographical areas of Hungary.
