Y A Staphylococcus aureus control program usually takes years, and during this time several challenges can be encountered in the everyday practice. The authors present a long but successful S. aureus eradication program in a large scale dairy herd with 1600 Holstein-Friesian cows. They review the pitfalls which could lengthen the program. Using data of four years (2010–2013), a detailed demonstration is given about the economic impact of mastitis and the eradication program. The annual costs and losses reached 28 900 Ft (96.5 €) per cow which means that the farm lost 45 million HUF (150 000 €) every year just because of the udder health problems caused by Staphylococcus aureus.en_US
