Abstract
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid ) is an essential micronutrient, involved in the maintenance of body functions. Very few mammals, like anthropoid primates, guinea pigs and some bat species as well as some Passeriformes bird species and surprisingly many fish species (teleost) are prone to vitamin C deficiency.
