Abstract
Antimicrobials (AM) are a vital tool in both human and animal health. However, overuse of AM can contribute to the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) which in recent times has been recognised as a global issue for human and animal health. The aim of this literature review is to find out if limiting the use of intramammary antibiotics in the treatment of mastitis to reduce drug resistance is a sustainable practice for farmers in Ireland. For my research I mainly used online scientific articles and also articles from magazines. I investigated where mistakes could be made in the practical application of the alternative treatment and also where solutions could be found.
