Abstract
This thesis presents a comprehensive overview of skin diseases affecting various south American rodents. The primary focus of this work is on wild rodents in their natural habitats and captive rodents kept in zoos or wildlife parks while acknowledging domestic pet rodents such as guinea pigs and chinchillas. Bacterial and viral infections of the skin will be reviewed first. Some poxviruses (cowpox, vaccinia virus, Brazilian porcupinepox virus), papillomavirus and foot and mouth disease will be discussed).
