In biological sciences, in animal breeding and foraging studies it is usually necessary to identify the origin of a questioned sample. These studies are based on nucleotide sequence methods that investigate the extracted DNA from the questioned biological sample. Many times the nuclear DNA is not available because of degradation therefore the scientists have to analyse the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) instead. This maternal heritable and non-recombinating part of the human or animal genome is useful to control the maternal lines. It helps the animal breeders to supervise the animal lineages.en
