dc.description.abstractThis Thesis will refer specifically to E.coli as a foodborne pathogen, the Verocytotoxigenic E.coli, VTEC, O157:H7, the symptoms of clinical disease it can incur and some trends of VTEC infections in the European Union. It will also review reports of E.coli outbreaks which have occurred worldwide, comparing various parameters such as the numbers of people infected, the clinical manifestations of the E.coli infections, the E.coli serotype involved and the source implicated or identified as causing the outbreak.en
