dc.description.abstractSUMMARY In this article, the authors overview the current knowledge about osteochondrosis in horses based on the published scientifi c data and their personal experiences. In the aetiology of the disease, the leading theories include the ischaemic and the type 2 collagen associated theories. Phenoytypic manifestation are influenced by environmental factors including nutrition, growing potential, exercise, biomechanical forces and genetics. The most common predilection sites, clinical signs, diagnostic approaches, conservative management, surgical options and the prognosis are summarized, as well. The radiographs presented in the paper were taken at the Department and Clinic of Equine Medicine of SZIU FVS.en_US
