Abstract

The use of EET is growing in popularity, and developments like the ability to chill and transport embryos for periods of up to 24hours have been important enablers of programmes. There are still however many challenges and a notable lack of consensus in regard to the procedure. The use of natural cover and AI is cheaper and achieves better pregnancy rates than EET. One key restraining factor with EET is that as yet there is no identified way of inducing superovulation in mares. It is possible to recover just one, or occasionally two embryos if a double ovulation has occurred spontaneously.
