The dietary management is of high importance to increase the quality of life and reduce the progression of the disease, as well as good veterinarian-owner communication. The CKD patient should be put on the correct diet based on the IRIS classification and how far the disease has progressed. Other methods can be used in the diagnosis, but they can be expensive for the owner. Animal welfare should always be in the back of the head during the progression of the disease and treatment of the animal.
