Abstract
Dogs can be affected by numerous types of cancer. The frequency of neoplasia in this species probably results from their relatively long life span, their genetic heterogeneity and their exposure to potential carcinogens in their shared environment with humans. The increased longevity is partially due to improved veterinary care and diagnostic work. Because of the continuous expansion of understanding about diseases, it is essential to have up-to-date knowledge, especially about the most malignant tumor types of dogs.
