Abstract
The embryo transfer is a reproductive technology which was initially just performed due to research purposes. The goal was to transfer embryos from a genetically superior donor female to a recipient with the aim of improving the genetic quality of the offspring. Commercial embryo transfer in pigs is not yet done routinely like in ruminants or other animal species, because most attempts involved a surgical intervention.
