Abstract

SUMMARY The 150th anniversary of Gyula Magyary-Kossa’s birth was commemorated on 8 January 2015, on his birthday, at a ceremonial event held at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Szent István University. Kóssa had been appointed head of the newly established Institute of Pharmacology and, at the same time, full professor of the Royal Hungarian Veterinary Academy, where he acted as director of the Department of Pharmacology up to 1935 and then as head of the department as a deputy for an additional year. Gyula Magyary-Kossa was one of the founders of the disciplines of pharmacology and, especially, toxicology in Hungary.
