Abstract

Rubus species are propagated vegetatively, making them more vulnerable to viral infections, as the virus is passed from the mother plant to the cultivars. So development of diagnostic techniques is important to be able to reliable check the virus-free propagation material. I studied the presence of a DNA virus of the genus Badnavirus, Rubus yellow net virus (RYNV). RYNV can infect raspberry (Rubus idaeus, R. occidentalis), blackberry (Rubus fruticosus) and hybrid plants, causing chlorosis of tissue along the veins in the leaves. Its presence can be asymptomatic in many cases, but co-infection with other viruses can cause raspberry mosaic disease (RMD), which in the majority of cases is already associated with various symptoms. RYNV occurs in North America and Europe but has not been known to be present in Hungary.
