Abstract

Chronic exertional myopathies occur in many breeds worldwide and have a tremendous negative impact on performance in affected horses. In Warmbloods, myofibrillar myopathy (PSSM2/MFM) is a newly described disease thought to represent a subset of the Polysaccharide Type 2 Storage Myopathy. Lack of amylase-resistant polysaccharide storage was however recently brought to light for PSSM2/MFM, changing the perception of the disease to protein oxidative and post exercise maladaptive pathophysiologic events. Feeding strategies and their effects on Warmblood horses suspected to suffer from chronic myopathies have not been performed so far.
