Abstract

Macrocyclic lactones (MLs) are parasiticides that can kill a variety of arthropods and helminths. They are one of the most important classes of anthelmintics due to our dependence on them for controlling parasitic infections in livestock, companion animals and humans. Despite its importance, the resistance towards MLs, such as ivermectin or moxidectin in dogs, is an increasing concern. There is a known sensitivity of Collies towards MLs, showing neurotoxicity symptoms when administered drugs are in a higher dose than the labelled dose. However, not only Collies but several other dog breeds have shown similar symptoms.
