Abstract

ÖSSZEFOGLALÁS A szerzők egy Anaplasma phagocytophilum fertőzésben megbetegedett macska esetét írják le. A fiatal, kijáró macska étvágytalanság, bágyadtság miatt került állatorvosi vizsgálatra. SUMMARY Objectives: The authors present a case of a cat with symptomatic Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection. Background: A two and a half year old neutered outdoor-indoor cat was presented with inappetence and loss of activity. Physical examination did not reveal any specific changes but fever and slightly enlarged mandibular lymph nodes. Several ticks were removed from the cat during the examination. Haematology showed thrombocytopenia and lymphocytopenia and in the blood smear Anaplasma phagocytophilum morula-like formations were seen in the neutrophil granulocytes. Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection was later confirmed by PCR (polimerase chain reaction) test. Results: Four weeks long doxycycline treatment (10 mg/kg per os SID) was indicated. In the first few days significant improvement was seen. The control blood examination showed normalized values, and the blood smear became negative. The cat was completely asymptomatic during the 7-month follow-up period. Discussion: The presented case draws attention to the importance of vector-borne diseases in veterinary medicine. It is recommended to carry out Anaplasma phagocytophilum serology test if suspicion arises of tick-borne diseases in cats with fever.
