Factors influencing the incidence of canine pancreatitis

Abstract

Within this thesis it was analyzed how the factors such as breed, age, gender and body weight of dogs may influence the incidence of canine pancreatitis. For this purpose medical records of the total number of dogs (n=25038) examined medically at the small animal clinic in Budapest between 2011 and 2015 were reviewed. Dogs diagnosed with pancreatitis (n=260) referred to the group termed “Pancreatitis” and were compared to a control group termed “Control”. At the clinic canine pancreatitis was diagnosed by the respective veterinarians in charge and was largely based on clinical, laboratory and ultrasonographic findings. Medical records provided information about the diagnostic findings as well as about the patients’ physical data. Reviewed physical data included breed, gender, age and body weight of the study participants which allowed to group the dogs accordingly to breed, age (0-2 years, 3-7 years, >8 years), gender (males or females) and accordingly to body weight (underweight, overweight, breed standard).
