Abstract
Here the anatomy of the canine male and female relevant to the performance of artificial insemination is presented. It covers the estrus cycle of the bitch, natural mating and artificial insemination. It briefly describes the various techniques existing when it comes to performing canine artificial insemination. It concludes that performing intrauterine insemination with fresh semen have to this date proven to give the highest pregnancy rates So far no significant difference in results have been obtained when comparing the different TUI methods. There is ongoing research trends concerning frozen semen and endoscopic TUI.
