The occurence of Major Food- and Water-Borne diseases in Norway
Abstract
A comprehensive, yet general view has been given about the current situation in Norway with regards to food hygiene and food- and water-borne infections in Norway. Although instances in general are quite low, people still get infected from time to time and outbreaks happen every once in a while. Fortunately, not many people die from these infections in Norway. As with other countries in the EEA and EU, there are common legislature that are followed to ensure public safety when they consume food products of animal origin and I believe they work quite well. Obviously, infections are still occuring but I do not believe you can get rid of this 100% since there will always be a human element involved in the production of these food products and we are not infallible by any means. Consuming animal products and byproducts will always carry a risk, but I believe that we should and must do everything we can to minimize this risk. It will involve continuing the montioring of the whole food chain as well as educating the public on how to minimize the risk of infection.
