Review of clinical submissions for Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) culture and an examination of animal data associated with recovery of MAP in Ireland from 2017 to 2019

Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is the causative agent of Johne’s Disease (JD), also known as Paratuberculosis, because of the similar appearance to Mycobacterium bovis, the cause of bovine tuberculosis. Listed by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) as a bacterial disease of ruminants, Johne’s has a wide range of hosts, including cattle, sheep, deer and camelids.
