Wound healing is a complex process often followed by scar tissue. New research has shed light on a possibility for healing without scar formation. By investigating strains of mice with regenerative abilities researchers have discovered regenerative abilities on different quantitative trait loci and also that the suppression of p21 protein is important in the regenerative abilities. Molecular treatment includes Platelet rich plasma, Interleukin-1 Receptor antagonist protein and stem cells. It is a rather new form of treatment and has been investigated to be used to replace or substitute the traditional therapy as the healing and rehabilitation time is long, the failure rate high and so is the risk of re injury. My goal has been to investigate the genetic aspect of wound healing and regeneration, and consider the different types of molecular treatment possibilities in regards of equine tendon injuries.en
