dc.description.abstract | The aim of this work was to obtain new breeding parameters for the sheep breed Tsigai and to gain more information about the actual situation of this old breed. For this purpose the current herd book data which contains 28400 registered animals were used. The evaluation of this herd book data showed that the females give birth to their first lamb with about 2 years of age on average. It also showed that the females had a life span longer (about 5 years) than the males (about 4 years). It was further determined that the lambing is seasonal (it happen mainly in winter) and absolutely not typical in fall. The sex ratio of the registered population is 43% males and 57% females. According to the ratio of the new breeding animals an effective herd size of 56 was estimated. Within the whole herd book 28% of the individuals was characterized with an inbreeding coefficient being over 0, while considering the breeding animals only this percent was 12, which is seen as positive. The generation interval is 4 years on average which means that the parents can produce 3 litters during their life; the mother - daughter and father - daughter paths have similar values. | en |
