dc.description.abstract | The objective of this thesis is to provide an overview of the various methods of oestrus synchronisation in dairy cattle using PGF2a and/or GnRH-based treatment protocols and explore both their positive and negative impact on reproductive performance as well as on herd profitability. Data for this literature review was obtained from journals reporting for previous studies, which had been conducted to investigate the reproductive efficacy of synchronisation systems applied in dairy cattle reproductive management. It was concluded that, although the various hormonal treatments may potentially enhance reproductive efficacy to a variable extent, an ideal treatment protocol does not exist and an appropriate synchronisation program must be selected based on individual herd management and expectations. | en |
