The past 15 years, the Cat have been the center of feline genome studies sequenced in 2007, making it a very good model for the study of the corresponding human genetic diseases. Among them are widely spread spontaneous and random mutations which are constantly studied in order to develop DNA tests. The main goal is to eradicate certain traits or to lower the prevalence among affected breeds in breeding programs. Here are discussed the most important feline genetic diseases for which a DNA test is available today. It makes it possible to detect and monitor affected animals to reduce the prevalence of these deleterious mutations among feline breeds.
