In this thesis the worldwide well-known Dachshund breed and its development during the past centuries was examined and in addition also their genetic pool and inherited defects. During decades different trends have changed the outer appearance of the breed. But however, often these trends have not always been positive for the Teckel breed as well. While breeders were focusing most of the times on appearance, they ignored the development of genetic diseases. This thesis is focusing not only on the development of the breed itself. It is also an insight of the different genetic diseases that might be inherited to future Dachshund generations.en_US
