This is a literature review on the general topic: the equine speed gene MSTNand what it means in relation to the breeding and racing industry as a whole.The breeding of a thoroughbred racehorse (​Equus ferus caballus)​​dates back manycenturies, it has been selected over time for speed and performance qualities.
