Abstract
Small strongyles are considered to be the most important helminths of horses (Love et al., 1999).
Previously, large strongyle were the focus of research and treatment strategies due to their high
pathogenicity; however, with strategic deworming practiced widely the prevalence of large
strongyles has diminished (Lyons et al., 1999; Bowman et al., 2003; Nilsson et al., 1989; Becher
et al., 2010; Drudge & Lyons, 1996; Gawor, 1995; Poynter, 1969; Fritzen, 2005; von Samson Himmelstjerna et al., 2007; Hinney et al., 2011; Schneider et al., 2014).
