A study comparing the success rate of fresh versus frozen semen samples when used in embryo transfer in horses
Abstract
This paper is written about a study taken place to investigate and compare the success rate of
fresh semen versus frozen semen when used in embryo transfer in horses. To do this we looked
at a group of both registered veterinarians carrying out ET regularly throughout the breeding
season in Ireland alongside owners of both donor and recipient mares. By comparing the amount
of mares inseminated with either fresh or frozen semen and those who had an embryo flushed on
day 7 and transferred to a recipient mare who intern was confirmed in foal via rectal
ultrasonography minimum day 14 of embryo lifecycle we can in fact improve the success rate of
future ET.
