dc.description.abstract | This thesis presents a comprehensive overview of skin diseases affecting various south
American rodents. The primary focus of this work is on wild rodents in their natural habitats
and captive rodents kept in zoos or wildlife parks while acknowledging domestic pet rodents
such as guinea pigs and chinchillas. Bacterial and viral infections of the skin will be reviewed
first. Some poxviruses (cowpox, vaccinia virus, Brazilian porcupinepox virus),
