Otitis externa is a prevalent and multifactorial disease affecting the external ear canal in dogs. The disease can be classified into primary, secondary, predisposing, and perpetuating factors, each contributing to the complex aetiology of otitis externa. Recently, the issue of recurrence has been a significant concern due to the new challenges veterinarians face, such as antimicrobial resistance and the inability to identify the primary causative agent. The yeast Malassezia pachydermatis, which can be found in both healthy and inflamed canine ears, frequently plays a role in the secondary factors that contribute to otitis externa.en_US
