Potential long-term complications of general anesthesia in small animals
Abstract
This thesis explores the potentially damaging effect general anesthesia can have on small
animals beyond the immediate perioperative period. The thesis investigates the influence of
anesthetic drugs on various systems, including the cardiovascular-, respiratory-, nervous-,
urinary-, gastrointestinal-, endocrine-, reproductive-, and musculoskeletal systems. By going
through available data, this thesis aims to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the
potential risks associated with general anesthesia in small animals.
