Examination of the nocturnal melatonin concentration in ewes during the gestation period
Abstract
The aim of this investigation was to measure the nocturnal plasma melatonin concentration
in ewes during their gestation, as this topic has not been extensively studied so far.
The breed of ewes selected for the research was the Tsigai, for which we had obtained an
official animal experiment permit.
We took blood samples several times a night during the test period. We used the RIA
method (see more below) to determine the melatonin concentration and its variations
during gestation, using population genetic statistics to estimate the result based on the data
of our findings.
