Abstract
The focus of this thesis lies on gaining a deeper understanding of the physiological functions involved in mammalian nociception. This literature review investigates and summarizes the main nociceptive pathways and highlights the foremost relevant structures and substances. Modulatory points, neurotransmitters, different nerve fibers, receptor and pain types are all outlined and explained.
