Abstract
While there is existing research on stress and risk factors for stress of dogs in a clinical setting, gaps still exist in understanding how to mitigate this stress effectively. This literature review aimed to explore methods for reducing stress in dogs at the veterinary clinic. The review emphasizes that the prevention of negative emotions is key in reducing fear in veterinary practice. However, tailoring stress-reduction tools to individual dogs can be difficult in a busy clinic with limited time and resources. Identifying behavioural signs of stress in dogs during a veterinary visit is crucial but challenging to interpret accurately. Both owners and veterinarians can identify major signs of stress, but minor signs are often missed or misinterpreted.
