In vivo genepreservation inthe Hungarian Mangalica

Abstract

The objective of this work was to study the historical background of the old native Hungarian swine breed Mangalica and explore the possibilities of saving the genetic gene pool with the method in vivo gene preservation. While the breed was very popular at the end of the 19thcentury,it became very unwanted due to its high fat content years later and nearly extinct.
