Abstract

The rapid expansion of aquaculture the last decades has resulted in a higher use of antimicrobials(AM) in the industry. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is not a new phenomenon, however, the increasing rate in which new antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) are emerging is of concern. In this study, freely available Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) next generation sequenced samples obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Sequence Read Archive (SRA) were found. These samples were analysed by a unified metagenomic pipeline to study the ARG contents. A collection of samples was found from North America, Chile, Norway and Scotland.
