Abstract
Summary: Cryptorchidismisconsideredtobeanautosomalrecessivetraitcommontoboththecanineandequinespecies.Manystudieshavehighlighteditscomplexpathogenesisinfluencedbygenetics,epigeneticsandtheenvironment.Itisknowntohaveahighprevalenceindogsandhorses,3.3-6.8%and2-8%respectively.Theinheritancepatternofcryptorchidisminbothspeciessuggestsamoderateheritability.Inordertoovercomethis,breedersareadvisednottobreedfertilecryptorchidmalesfromtheirbreedingstock.
