Abstract
The dairy cow in the peripartal period has a higher risk to develop diseases associated with metabolic dysregulation. Especially prepartum over conditioned cows are more likely to develop peripartal disorders. Yet there is no complete comprehension why over conditioned cows are more prone to disease. It is supposed that the time of negative energy balance is crucial to control more effectively. Many studies showed significant correlation between higher lipid mobilisation of over conditioned cows whilst defective utilisation of this metabolic fuel then lead to peripartal disorders. This study tested the serum carnitine, the serum lactate and glycerol concentrations and the aquaporin-7 protein expression of subcutaneous adipose tissue (SCAT) homogenates of 26 multiparous German Holstein cows.
