Fecal microbiota transplantation as a treatment of hepatic encephalopathy in dogs
Absztrakt
Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is not a disease on its own, it is a dysfunction of the
brain accompanying advanced liver diseases. Due to various causes, the liver is not able to
detoxify ammonia, which leads to the accumulation of ammonia in the blood circulation and
consequently to the accumulation in the brain, where it leads to cognitive dysfunction of the
patient. These deficits have not only been observed in humans but also in dogs, for example
the Author of this thesis has included a case study of a french bulldog named Bella, which
was suffering from HE.
