Abstract
This review offers a broad and comprehensive discussion on bile acids, their diverse roles within the body and how the process of detailed bile acid profiling can provide valuable insights into the application of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies within veterinary medicine. Newly modified methodologies which are more specific and sensitive such as LC-MS/MS and UHPLC-MS/MS are gaining favour with researchers in this filed as they can quickly provide a more detailed bile acid profile which has the potential to detect early biomarkers for liver impairment and gut dysbiosis.
